The band, Phish, has experienced the kind of long-term success that many musical groups dream about but never achieve. This popular group has performed and been successful ever since it was formed in the fall of 1983. The four original members, Trey Anastasio, Jeff Holdsworth, Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman, were all students at the University of Vermont when they created the band. Marc Daubert joined Phish in the fall of 1984. The group’s first gigs were on the university campus. In 1985, a Vermont luthier (a person who makes or repairs stringed instruments), Paul Languedoc, joined the group to work as their sound engineer. Currently, Jeff Holdsworth and Marc Daubert no longer are a part of Phish, but Page McConnell has joined the group.
Phish has become highly successful because of both its sound and its unique blending of various musical styles. The group’s music is an eclectic mixture of jazz, rock, bluegrass, funk, progressive rock, new wave reggae, ambient, Latin, blues, country, psychedelic rock and classical. Some of their more ambitious compositions are sometimes described as classical music in a rock setting. The band has released 14 studio-recorded albums, a multitude of live shows, a series of 27 complete concerts called Live Phish, 7 traditional live albums and 6 videos. The group has played approximately 650 individual compositions.
There is good news for the band’s fans that live in the New York Metropolitan area. Phish is scheduled to play a series of concerts at Madison Square Garden for the 2010 New Year’s Eve celebration on December 30th and 31st and January 1st. It is always fun to attend a Phish concert, but it is especially so when the venue is Madison Square Garden. It is the world’s most famous arena and situated in the heart of New York City. Madison Square Garden is an exciting place to attend a concert. It is located on 8th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets, on top of Pennsylvania Station. It seats 20,000 people for concerts and, based on the number of tickets sold, is the third busiest arena in the world.

The new Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, NJ has three venues: The New Meadowlands Stadium, The Meadowlands Racetrack and The IZOD Center. It is accessible by bus, rail and car, depending on the event.
In December, the Sports Complex will host three NFL games, two with the New York Giants and one with the New York Jets. I’ve been to both Giants and Jets games and both are a blast. (My experience is that the Giants fans are generally more family-friendly.)
The Izod Center has had so many names that locals just call it the Meadowlands Center. In the past, it was called the Brendan Byrne Arena and Continental Airlines Arena. It’s a multi-purpose indoor arena with a maximum seating capacity of 20,000.
On Friday, December 3, former Black Sabbath front man, heavy-metal godfather and MTV icon OZZY OSBOURNE is bringing his latest tour to the IZOD Center on December 3. This United States visit is part of Ozzy’s current 18-month world tour. He’s getting some of the best live reviews of his life. Legendary Judas Priest front man Rob Halford will also perform with his new band Halford.
On Saturday, December 4, Duke University and Butler University are having a rematch of their NCAA National Championship game at the IZOD Center. Tip-off is at 3:15 pm ET and is being televised live on ESPN. Duke ended Butler’s miracle run last year in a 61-59 thriller to claim its fourth national title.
Prince’s awesome new live production lands on December 14th,15th and 17th. Prince will be jamming with numerous friends such as Maceo Parker, Janelle Monae, Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Sinbad, Lalah Hathaway, Sheila E. and Graham Central Station.
Thursday, Dec. 30, the WWE Smackdown Superstars hold their final event of 2010—a Triple Threat Steel Cage Main Event Match for the World Heavyweight Championship featuring Edge vs. Kane vs. The Big Show.
I’m sure these are just a preview of what 2011 will bring.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (aka the “Cup Series” or just “Sprint Cup”) is the most significant racing series of every season. While this year’s Cup hits its stride (yes, we’ve got tickets), we’ve got our mind on the 2011 season. Believe it or not, now is the best time to buy your passes.
Vying for the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup will be 49 drivers from 22 teams representing the 4 engine suppliers: Chevrolet, Toyota, Ford, and Dodge. The 2011 Cup Series will cross the country from coast to coast, featuring 36 races on 22 tracks.
The official NASCAR 2011 Sprint Cup season kicks off as always at the prestigious Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL, on February 20 with the famous Daytona 500.
The Cup races will then travel the country to venues like:
- the Phoenix International Raceway
- Bristol Motor Speedway – Food City 500 on March 20
- Talladega Super Speedway in Talladega, AL (for Aaron’s 499)
- May 7 at the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in NC
- Pocono Raceway on June 12 and Aug 7th
- Watkins Glen International Speedway on Aug 14
- Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sept 4th
- The Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire’s Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH on September 25th
- The season ends with the season’s champions decided at the Ford 400 on November 20, 2011 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Miami, FL.
Also, as usual, races in the NASCAR 2011 Nationwide Series and NASCAR 2011 Camping World Truck Series will be running concurrently with many 2011 Sprint Cup events.
In 2010 Jimmie Johnson took the championship title, his fourth, with Hendrik Motorsports taking team title and Chevrolet taking the make title. Who will it be in 2011? If previous years’ showings are any indication, some of the names to watch include Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Mark Martin, Kyle Busch, and Juan Pablo Montoya.

It seems like just the other day that the musical Jersey Boys hit Broadway (2005) and now it’s showing all over the country. Check out our selection of Jersey Boys tickets on sale but, for our money, seeing the show in Manhattan at the Virgina/August Wilson Theater is the way to go.
Jersey Boys, the story of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, has won Tony® awards and is now featured at theaters around the US. It’s a documentary-style musical focused on the 1960′s music group, The Four Seasons, and their music. Popular songs include “Sherry,” “Walk Like a Man” & “Oh, What a Night”.
